TC GIRLS BASKETBALL LOSES SEASON OPENER, JV WINS. The Triton Central girls basketball team kicked off their 2025-26 season Tuesday night with a hard-fought battle at Heritage Christian, falling just short in a 63-59 loss to the host team in a matchup that could serve as a preview of a potential sectional showdown later this season. The first quarter set the tone for the contest, with both teams tied at 10-10. Triton Central took a slim 29-27 lead into halftime, fueled by strong performances from senior Maryrose Felling and junior Quinn King. Heritage Christian responded in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 18-12 to claim a 45-41 advantage heading into the final quarter. Despite taking a 1-point lead in the final minute, TC ended up falling to Heritage Christian by 4. Maryrose Felling led the Tigers with 25 points and seven rebounds, while Quinn King finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. Kate Collier contributed 10 points, adding three rebounds and two assists, and Cheyenne Allen chipped in five points. Layla Compton, Rylee Pruitt and Lexi Eubanks all finished with 1 point each. On the junior varsity side, Triton Central dominated Heritage Christian 46-14. Ryn West led the way with 13 points, followed by Madison Swisher with nine, Laiyla McLane with six, and Hayden McMichael with five. Kenzie Hoover added four points, while Peyton Fillippinie, Anna Kemper, and Eliana Joy each scored three points, helping the Tigers start the season with a convincing JV win. Triton Central will return to action tomorrow night for their home opener. JV takes on Center Grove at 6 p.m., followed by varsity facing Greenwood Christian at 7:30 p.m.
