TC GIRLS BASKETBALL FALLS TO EASTERN HANCOCK; JV WINS. Saturday night at Triton Central was highlighted by a varsity showdown that came down to the final seconds. Despite a dominant performance from senior Maryrose Felling, Triton Central fell just short as Eastern Hancock escaped with a 58-57 win. The Royals led 12-11 after the first quarter before the Tigers clawed back to tie the game 25-25 at halftime. Triton Central surged ahead late in the third, taking a 41-40 advantage into the final period, but Eastern Hancock made enough plays down the stretch to hand the Tigers a heartbreaking one-point loss. Felling poured in 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double while adding three steals. Kate Collier provided a steady all-around effort with 11 points, five rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Quinn King set the table offensively with six points, six assists, three rebounds and four steals, while Cheyenne Allen contributed four points and six boards. Other contributors included Layla Compton (two points, three rebounds, five assists), Lexi Eubanks (two points, two rebounds, one steal), Madison Swisher (one point, one steal) and Rylee Pruitt (two rebounds, one assist). The loss drops the varsity Tigers to 1-2 on the season. In the earlier game, Triton Central’s JV squad improved to 2-1 with a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring in a 30-13 win over Eastern Hancock. The Tigers led 8-6 after one quarter and stretched the margin to 16-7 by halftime. Their pressure continued to wear down the Royals, allowing TC to stay firmly in control the rest of the night. Hayden McMichael led the team with 8 points, while Ryn West added 7. Eliana Joy scored 5, Madison Swisher contributed 3, and Kenzie Hoover chipped in 3. Anna Kemper and Peyton Fillippinie each added 2 points to round out the scoring. Triton Central returns home Friday to open Hoosier Legends Conference play against Monrovia.
